CERVICAL SPINE FACET JOINT INFLAMMATION
Cervical Spine Facet degeneration is common but seeing active inflammatory changes less so.
In this case there is a joint effusion and loss of cartilage (Orange arrow) which may be symptomatic or asymptomatic.
But we also have bone marrow oedema (Blue arrows) on either side of the joint which is uncommon to see. This suggests the presence of inflammation and a likely pain generator which can be useful sign to target for intervention.
Early infection can also produce a similar appearance, so the clinical context is important.

Key findings include synovial thickening, joint effusion, bone marrow oedema, and capsular distension.
