ABU DHABI MSK MRI MINI FELLOWSHIP AND WORKSTATION

WORKSHOP: HIP, KNEE AND SHOULDER

WHY A MINI FELLOWSHIP AND WORKSTATION BASED WORKSHOPS AND NOT ENDLESS DAYS OF LECTURES?

AS A RADIOLOGIST YOU MAY HAVE THIS CHALLENGE

When Dr Maria trained, she was not taught much MRI, particularly MSK. But now, she is expected to report and also reviews scans with clinicians. Everytime she reports, this stresses her and then she waits for the clinician’s call. Did I get it right or wrong? So to learn she goes to conferences, reads articles or Googles! But she doesn’t see enough cases or learns a structure to assess and diagnose a full scan. Result... Dr Maria’s confidence to report scans remains low.

HERE IS A SOLUTION WORTH CONSIDERING

A fellowship is a good solution to Dr Maria’s problem, but 1 year and the expense? So, what should she do? How about a mini fellowship on specific joints where you are guided to learn a structure, recognise and diagnose what is important and reinforce and retain it by looking at 100’s of scans. This is a great way to learn. That’s how I learnt in my fellowship. The information you need to know then, lots of scans and someone guiding you through them to Learn By Doing.

THE MINI FELLOWSHIP: WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT

THE MINI FELLOWSHIP: WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT

The Mini Fellowship is a combination of a 30 Day Online Pre Workshop Preparation Course, then a 2 Day Workstation Workshop learning to put that knowledge into use with guided viewing of 100’s of dicoms and then a 30 Day Online Post Workshop Review to help you remember what you have learnt. You will learn in a systematic way,to assess all the important features in assessing each joint and learn a structure of how to assess a scan, how to differentiate between similar looking pathologies and how to produce a consise and accurate report. Our aim is that when you go back to work on the day after the workshop you will be reporting MRI scans on your list more confidently and accurately.

HOW WILL YOU LEARN IN THE MINI FELLOWSHIP

HOW WILL YOU LEARN IN THE MINI FELLOWSHIP

For 2018 we have completely restructured the teaching . We will have a Pre Workshop Online Preparatory Course for 30 days, so that you pre-learn most of the knowledge before you attend the workshop. Daily, detailed and structured reviews of the different MRI pathologies with dicom viewing to get a head start. Then a 2 day Workstation Based Workshop where you will be guided through100’s of dicoms and we will concentrate on viewing, diagnosing and reporting the dicoms like you have to do at work. Followed by a 30 Day Online Post workshop review to reinforce what you have learnt.

structured learning

Learn a structured, pattern based way to assess and diagnose MRIs. Ask questions whenever you don’t understand or cant see the abnormality. Fix the understanding on the spot.

100’s of dicoms

Once you have a structure and pattern, learning and retaining knowledge is all about repetition. You are not left on your own. We guide you through 100’s of dicoms to reinforce what you have learnt. See in a day, MRI abnormalities that’s taken us years to collect.

ITS YOUR TURN

Join your colleagues from over 20 nations who have attended our workshops in 12 countries.

Workshop Programme

Here’s what you will learn to recognise, diagnose and develop a sound understanding of.

This Mini Fellowship and Workshop will be for you if you have basic to intermediate knowledge.

MARCH 30, 2018
07:30am - 08:00am
WELCOME COFFEE AND REGISTRATION
08:00am - 10:00am
SYNOVITIS: All the different appearances.
CARTILAGE: Fissuring, tears, delamination and the complications.
DEGENERATION: MRI changes that are common to all joints.
MENISCUS: All the types of tears, complications and variant appearances of menisci.

We start with Synovitis, Degeneration and Cartilage loss. Learn their MRI appearance and apply to all joints. We then look at how to assess Menisci. From normal, to the various tears, how to differentiate degenerative change from tears and to meniscal variants.
10:00am - 10:30am
Morning Break
10:30am - 12:30pm
LIGAMENTS: ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL
ACL GRAFTS:
Learn how to systematically assess the ligaments around the knee and the specific findings in posterolateral and posteromedial corner injuries. How do you assess an ACL graft and the potential complications.
12:30pm - 01:30pm
LUNCH
01.30pm - 03.30pm
BONE MARROW: Stress response, Insufficiency fractures and SONK.
PATELLA AND PATELLA TENDON: Dislocation, Cartilage and Alignment. Patella tendinosis and tears.
We commonly see bone marrow oedema but it is not a diagnosis. What are the possible cause of bone marrow oedema and how do you differentiate them? We go through the specific MRI features of patella dislocation and the findings of Patella Tendionsis, tears and peritendinous fatty inflammatory changes.
3:30pm - 04.00pm
AFTERNOON TEA
HIP MRI
4.00pm - 05.30pm
GLUTEAL TENDONS: Tendinosis, Tears and Bursitis
HAMSTRINGS: Tendinosis and Tears
BONE MARROW: AVN, Stress and Insufficiency Fractures and Regional Osteoporosis.
Learn a systenatic way to assess Tendinosis, Tears and Bursitis of the Gluteal Tendons and Hamstrings. AVN, fractures and regional osteoporosis. What do they look like and how to differentiate them.
05:30pm - 07:00pm
GROUP PHOTOS AND POST WORKSHOP CATCH UP
MARCH 31, 2018
07:30am - 08:00am
COFFEE
08:00am - 10:00am
HIP LABRUM: Variants, Tears and Paralabral Cysts
FEMERO ACETABULAR IMPINGEMENT
HIP DYSPLASIA

The labrum is usually what people have the most difficulty with. Learn how to assess for normal variants and tears and complications such as paralabral cysts and cartilage loss. Learn how to assess for FAI and the predisposing conditions to look for on X-ray, CT and MRI.
10:00am - 10:30am
MORNING COFFEE BREAK
SHOULDER
10:30am - 12:30pm
LABRUM VARIANTS
LABRAL TEARS, PARALABRAL CYSTS AND DENERVATION

SLAP TEARS
CAPSULE TEARS HAGL and GAGLS
Assessing the shoulder labrum is usually what people have the most difficulty with. But if you have a structure, it becomes easier to differentiate between labral variants and tears, assess for complications such as cysts and denervation and do a complete assessment of all the structures involved in a labral tear and SLAP tears. Learn how to assess the Glenoid for bony injury on CT and MRI. Learn how to diagnose Capsular Tears of the Glenoid and Scapula. We look at abnormalities on both arthrographic and non arthrographic scans.
12:30pm - 01:30pm
