VARIATIONS IN THE ORIGIN OF THE LONG HEAD OF BICEPS:

Good evening it’s going to be a month of anatomy this December and this synopsis and the diagram are from a nice article in The European Journal of Anatomy by Abduelmenem Alashkham et al on the variable origin of the attachment of the long head of biceps tendon.

The long head has attachment to both the supra-glenoid tubercle and the superior labrum but the location of attachment to the labrum can vary as shown in the image below.

In their study they indicate the presence of a sublabral foramen in ≈29% of the dissected shoulders but found no correlation with the site of labral attachment of the biceps tendon. No mention is made of a sublabral recess in the study.
